Privacy

The iOS app has no account, advertising, behavioural analytics, or third-party tracking. The app itself does not send us — or anyone else — your camera frames, location, photos, film choices, or other creative activity. Those stay on your device as described below.

This website is a separate thing and it is not as quiet: it runs Google Analytics, described below. Nothing about the app's behaviour on your phone changes because of that.

Lightmeter Plus purchases are processed by Apple and managed with RevenueCat. To show products, complete and restore purchases, prevent fraud, and keep Plus access current, RevenueCat processes an anonymous app user identifier, product and transaction information, entitlement status, and limited technical information such as app and operating system versions, device type, storefront locale and currency, and network information such as IP address. We do not give RevenueCat your name, email address, photos, camera feed, or precise location.

Purchase information is used for app functionality and subscription analytics. It is not used by us for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites. RevenueCat acts as our service provider and processes this information under its privacy policy. Apple processes App Store purchases under Apple's own privacy terms.

This site has no signup and no form. Downloading the app is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy — we never see your Apple Account or the email attached to it.

Apple passes us crash logs from anyone who has agreed to share analytics with Apple, with no name attached. If you are on the TestFlight beta, whatever you send through TestFlight's feedback reaches us too — your note, a screenshot if you attach one, and the device model and iOS version it came from. Send nothing and we receive nothing beyond the crash logs.

Share feedback in the app opens Mail or Safari. We only see a message if you choose to send one.

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits — pages viewed, how you got here, device and browser, a rough location from IP, and which download button you pressed on the way to the App Store. Google processes that under their privacy policy. It does not run in the iOS app.

Camera frames are used on your device to measure light and to render the film-camera preview. They stay in memory for metering and preview. When you tap the shutter, a still is captured and a film look is developed on the phone — including RAW sensor data when the device supports it. Nothing is uploaded.

If you allow it, Lightmeter may write a geotag into the photo you just captured — When In Use, a one-shot at the shutter, not a live track — so the map pin in Photos matches where you stood. The app never sends that location anywhere: we do not receive it and nor does anyone else through us. Deny it and the app still works, just without geotags.

Once the geotag is written it is part of the photo, and the photo is yours to move. If you use iCloud Photos, it syncs with the picture to Apple's servers and your other devices, under Apple's terms. If you AirDrop, message, upload or export a frame, the location goes with it unless you strip it — iOS lets you turn location off per share from the options at the top of the share sheet. That is Photos and the services you send it to, not Lightmeter, but it is worth knowing.

Frames you capture are written to your own Photos library, including a Lightmeter album, and shown again in the gallery and darkroom. Crop, border, and restyle save as a new photo. We never see or receive them. They are ordinary photos in your library from that point on: if your library syncs to iCloud Photos or a shared album, they sync with it, and their metadata — including any geotag — travels with the file when you share or export it.

Deleting a frame in Lightmeter lets you remove it from the Lightmeter gallery only, or delete it from your iPhone Photos library entirely — using Apple's own confirmation, moved to Recently Deleted just like deleting it from the Photos app. We store nothing in the cloud, so once it's gone from Recently Deleted, it's gone.

Film stocks, cameras, lenses, meter settings, favourites, shutter sound, capture quality, and the loaded film for Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets live only on the phone. Widgets read the film name and chip — not your photos or location.

The darkroom keeps ungraded digital negatives in the app's private storage so you can restyle a shot. Those files are kept out of iCloud backup, pruned if the folder grows too large, and are never uploaded. Deleting the app removes them. Prints already in Photos stay there until you delete them.

On-device settings and working files are removed when you delete the app, except for prints you saved to Photos. RevenueCat and Apple retain purchase records as needed to provide subscriptions, restore purchases, prevent fraud, keep financial records, and comply with law. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription; subscriptions can be managed from your Apple Account subscription settings.

Apple controls App Store purchase history and Apple Account information, so requests about those records must be made to Apple.

Lightmeter is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect names, contact information, photos, or precise location from children. If a purchase is made through a child's device or Apple Account, Apple and RevenueCat process the limited purchase information described above. If you believe we hold information from someone under 13, write and we will review and delete it where legally permitted.
